भाई टीका festival of reunion between brothers and sisters

The fifth and last day of Tihar is called Bhai Tika. It is celebrated with great pomp in Nepal as the second biggest festival of the country. It is celebrated for 5 days. On the last day, brothers and sisters worship each other. The worship performed on the last day is called Bhai Tika.

According to religious legend, when Goddess Yamuna's brother fell seriously ill, Yama, the god of death, came to take his soul. Yamuna requested the god of death to wait until the final worship for her brother was over. Then she began a long elaborate ceremony in which Yama also joined in. Then Yamuna told Yama that she would not be able to take her brother until the tika applied on her brother's forehead was removed, the oil she had sprinkled dried, the garland of velvet flowers faded, and the color of the yam changed. After this, it is said that Yama could not take Yamuna's brother. In this memory, this festival is celebrated by praying for the long life of her brother.

This festival is considered a festival of reunion between brothers and sisters.
